2023 And
Vision for the Future
2023
Starting off
A group of 12-year-old immigrant girls prepared a proposal highlighting the inequities they faced in education, social inclusion, and access to opportunities. Their courage and advocacy inspired parents and community leaders to listen, sparking the movement that would later become Maine Youth Empowerment Services.
2024
Parent Acceptance and Formation
Parents and volunteers united to support the girls’ vision and officially established Maine Youth Empowerment Services (MEYES) as a nonprofit organization. MEYES launched its first programs—soccer and swimming—to encourage physical health, teamwork, and confidence among young immigrant girls, while breaking cultural barriers around sports participation.
2025
Program Expansion
With growing community involvement, MEYES expanded its impact by introducing Obstacle Course Challenges, the Feature Film Program, and Eco-Girls Maine. These programs integrate arts, media, environmental education, and physical wellness—empowering youth to lead, express their creativity, and build stronger community ties.
2026
And Beyond – Vision for the Future
MEYES envisions becoming a statewide leader in youth empowerment and arts education. Plans include developing a youth media studio, expanding leadership and cultural exchange programs, and training next-generation filmmakers and community leaders. Through continued partnerships, fundraising, and community-driven innovation, MEYES will create lasting opportunities for youth to thrive as healthy, creative, and confident leaders.
